The most popular version of how Sandia Mountain received its name is from the certain watermelon-colored hue that the hills turn at sunset. In Spanish, sandia means watermelon … also, hence the namesake of this blog: The Weekly Watermelon.
This week, we were blessed with one of those perfectly plain desert sunsets. The sky was clear blue and the mountains turned a delicious hue of sandia. Sometimes that special lighting only lasts a few minutes, so I was able to quickly captures these photos with my phone.
